2 Eric CARLE [signed] The Very Hungry Caterpillar
NY Philomel Books 1987 0399208534 / 9780399208539 Revised Edition Hardcover Good Good Book Eric Carle Signed by Author(s)
One Sunday morning, a red-faced caterpillar hatches from an egg, and begins to look for some food. He eats through increasing quantities of fruit on the following five days, one apple on Monday, two pears on Tuesday, three plums on Wednesday, four strawberries on Thursday, and five oranges on Friday, and then, on Saturday, he has an enormous feast. By the end of Saturday, the inevitable happens and he is ill. After recovering from a stomach-ache, he returns to a more sensible diet by eating through a large green leaf before spinning a cocoon in which he remains for the following 2 weeks. Later, the "big fat caterpillar" emerges as a beautiful butterfly with large, gorgeous, multi-colored wings. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a children's picture book designed, illustrated and written by Eric Carle, first published by the World Publishing Company in 1969, later published by Penguin Putnam. It features a caterpillar who eats its way through a wide variety of foodstuffs before pupating and emerging as a butterfly. The winner of many children's literature awards and a major graphic design award. [wiki]

Kate Douglas Wiggin - Timothy's Quest - Inscribed- 1890, Kate Douglas Wiggin
5 Kate Douglas Wiggin Kate Douglas Wiggin - Timothy's Quest - Inscribed- 1890
Boston Houghton Mifflin Company 1890 1st Edition Hardcover Very Good No Jacket Book Inscribed by Author(s)
1890, inscribed by Kate Douglas Wiggin, who also wrote Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and Mother Carey's Chickens. Timothy is an orphan child, who looks after a toddler named Gay in the inner city house where they're kept by a couple of old harridans; this seems out of Dickens but Wiggin was a social reformer with an interest in children, so I suspect it's more or less realistic. Things take a turn and Timothy and Gay light out for the country, and just happen to wind up at a certain farm where... you know where this is going. There's the crabby older lady, who had a disgraced dead sister who had a child, and, do you think Timothy looks like her? Do you think Timothy will melt all those old stone hearts? It's not a matter of where the plot is going, it's a matter of how it gets there. Approx. 7x5 inches. Very good condition.
