Helen & William Anderson are Connecticut newly weds in 1941. Prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor, Bill Anderson was inducted into the US Navy. Helen's scrap book chronicles her life while Bill is away. She travels to Norfolk, VA where Bill is stationed, & to Portland OR, where he has been transferred to. They are a solidly middle class American couple. They have means. Helen travels to NY to do the town. She misses her husband and her 'common sense' comments could have been lifted from a Frank Capra movie in 1941. Under the newspaper headline announcing the "JAP" attack on Pearl Harbor, she notes that is ..."why the old man can't come home", and elsewhere she writes "cards from home turn the grey skies to blue". This poignant story, so simply expressed, reveals the faith that sustained our "Greatest Generation".
