The Jewish Legion of Valor- The Story of Jewish Heroes in the Wars of the Republic. Signed December 1941, the month Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese, bringing on our entry into WWll. "The object of this book is to present the story of the Jew as a warrior; to describe his fighting activities throughout the course of history in general, and during the World War in particular. The belief is too prominent that whereas, in civil pursuits, the Jew has long been notable, in the domain of the soldier he has merited little recognition; that, while he has from time to time earned the highest honors in philosophy, in literature, in science, in finance, ha has rarely if ever been a figure of distinction upon the battlefield. It is true that history tells us of no Jewish Caesar, Alexander or Napoleon; but this is simply to say that no Jew has ever waved the sword of aggression ruinously over the world. It is not in the field of wasting and offensive warfare that the Jew has been conspicuous; it is not as a disciple of Terror, nor as an advocate of bloodshed and destruction; it is in the protection of his home and of his homes and of the homes of his fellows that he has won his laurels."
