Handwritten "Album of Remembrance" published by Leavitt & Allen, no date. Blank pages for handwritten messages, with a few full-page engravings. Sarah Jane Seymour Cornwell of Waterbury, Connecticut was the owner of the book. The book contains handwritten poems and Bible quotes from Cornwell's loved ones. Most include a date & town where they lived. Writing is dated 1858 to 1865 so it includes the whole period of the American Civil War. Names and places include : Pastor J. H. Perry of Waterbury, CT Guilford D. Browne of Bristol, CT Maggie Gordon of Windsor Locks O. H. Stevens of Waterbury Jennie G. Gordon of Windsor Locks Lucy of Waterbury Carrie Bishop of Waterbury A. W. Kelly of Waterbury Annie of Monson (probably Massachusetts) Sarah Elsie Pinkham of Windsor Locks H. E. Percy of Waterbury J. Alling - no place given A. E. Mintie of Waterbury Carrie and Emily Thompson of Windsor Locks Mary Ann Curtiss of Bristol R. R. Bronson of Waterbury A. C. Knight of Northampton MA Hattie E. Percy of Woodbury CT Emily G. of Windsor Locks Sarah of Thompsonville William H. Burns of Pictou, Nova Scotia, also Windsor Locks [interestingly google turns up a William Burns who was a lighthouse keeper on Wedge Island, Nova Scotia, in 1892 - perhaps the same person] A few of the ink inscriptions are faded, and the album shows some foxing. A couple of pages are partially split at the hinge. Overall a nice example of penmanship, clarity of thought, and sentiment.
